Steal This Look ~ Penny Lane

6 Feb

Penny Lane is in our ears and in our eyes…

blog
The 70’s seem like a downright trippy time. During this decade the Vietnam War came to an end, the pet rock was invented, and Farrah Fawcett was posted on nearly every teenage boy’s bedroom wall.  The rise of the “flower child” also took place during these years. It is within these eccentric times that we find our inspiration for our next “Steal this Look” blog.  We are digging the character made famous by Kate Hudson’s Penny Lane from Almost Famous.

As she follows her favorite rock band throughout their tour, Penny Lane is constantly rocking the quintessential hippie trends. At Rapunzel’s Closet we have everything you need to play up your inner groupie goddess, minus her famous suede shearling jacket!

We pulled some of our favorite items from the store to show how easy it is to create an ensemble that is just as at home in modern day South Florida as it would be riding the Stillwater tour bus in 1973!
blog
Jen’s Pirate Booty is our first pick. The Padang backless top in ivory looks great with light wash denim. The AG Pixie Cutoffs pictured here are a staple in every South Florida girl’s wardrobe. For a touch of color we added the Love Quotes linen scarf in Espresso. To complete this look, we suggest a pair of nude boots. Flip flops may not be the best choice when you never know what kind of venues your favorite rock band will be playing at!

Our favorite part about our second outfit is the Free People Lima hooded cardigan. The Southwest-inspired print looks great over a body-con dress or even with a pair of distressed denim jeans. For a dressier look, we put the cardigan over a cotton Minnie Rose Tank Dress in black. Because we love our accessories, we added the Gorjana Barrington belt around the waist. To top off the look we added one of our CC Design Stone Necklaces. The earthy look of these accessories is ideal for any flower child look.

Also pictured is a Dogeared tote with the phrase “Eat Bread,” perfect for the everyday vegetarian, and even the every-other-day vegetarian. The comfy pillow next to it is the Fresco Towels 24×24 pillow. These terry cloth cloth pillows are perfect for indoor or outdoor use and are a necessity after a long day of fun in the sun.

So check your local concert venues and come into Rapunzel’s to get your outfits ready. And remember in the words of Penny Lane, “You’re not a groupie, you’re a Band Aid.”

Outfit One:
Jen’s Pirate Booty Padang top: $264.00
AG Pixie Cutoff short: $154.00
Love Quotes Scarf in Espresso: $88.00

Outfit Two:
Free People Lima cardigan: $168.00
Minnie Rose Cotton Tank Dress: $118.00
Gorjana Barrington Belt: $58.00
CC Design necklace: $88.00

Also pictured:
Dogeared Tote: $30.00
Fresco Towels 24×24 pillow: 128.00

Closet Gossip: Gift Guide Part 4 ~ Rachel

5 Dec

Here at Rapunzel’s Closet, the girls have started to find themselves wondering who will be on their lists this year and what the perfect gift for that special someone may be. For “Rapunzel’s Gift Giving Guide,” we had a few of our most thoughtful selling associates narrow down and pick two of their favorite items that they hope to be giving holiday season. Yesterday we featured Kristen’s picks. Today is all about yours truly – Rachel the newest member of the Rapunzel’s Closet team!
blog

Palm Beach Prep is the theme of my holiday gifts. Now that the winter weather forcing us to cover up a bit more than usual, the perfect sweater may just be best gift to give this holiday.

Minnie Rose makes a second appearance in our Gift Giving Guide with my choice the cotton Shaker striped sweater. The bright orange, lime and periwinkle blue stripes (among other colors) combine beautifully to make this comfy knit.

“When I first saw this sweater, I immediately thought of about 8 people who would love to get it as a gift. I can see it with a pair of white jeans and cute sandals or maybe even with a fun maxi skirt. While I usually go for more muted colors, these bright colors will catch anybody’s attention. I’m a little tempted to buy it for myself!”

The Oxford loafer has made big waves in fashion this season. And these Del Toro loafers add a new flavor to the classic shoe. The brand was started in Miami and is quickly becoming a major trend, even far beyond South Florida.

“These soft pink patent leather loafers are the epitome of retro girly-girl. I can definitely see my girlfriends wearing these with cute dresses or a cropped pant. They are simple enough that they’re understated and chic, yet different enough that they are unique. And as the brand gets more popular, I can see them showing off how they had them before everyone else started wearing them!”

Minnie Rose sweater: $165.00
Del Toro loafers: $325.00

Closet Gossip: New Feature!

29 Nov

We’re so lucky to have the very talented Rachel Almeida as part of our selling team this year! She’s also a seasoned blogger and will be regularly contributing to our ShopRapunzels.com blog! blog

Closet Gossip is going to be a regular feature “A behind-the-scenes peek into Palm Beach’s most enchanted boutique!”

With Thanksgiving and Black Friday gone and past, many of us find ourselves starting to panic at the thought of holiday shopping. It is the only time of year when your sister, mother, babysitter, neighbor, and everyone else in between find their names on the same list—your holiday shopping list.

Keeping in mind how preferences differ from one gift-receiver to another, last-minute holiday shopping will only allow for reckless spending and even worse, unsatisfied family and friends.  Rapunzel’s Closet offers a variety of affordable, funky, and personalized gifts that will leave everyone on your list wishing they had thought of it first.

Here at Rapunzel’s Closet, the girls have started to find themselves wondering who will be on their lists this year and what the perfect gift for that special someone may be. For “Rapunzel’s Gift Giving Guide,” we had a few of our most thoughtful sales staff pick two of their favorite items that they hope to be giving holiday season. We’re rolling out our gift guide over the next few posts – so keep checking back to see what is our our wish lists!

First Up: Stephanie

blog
Our store manager, Stephanie, keeps a pretty busy schedule. So the fact that she’s able to do some of her holiday shopping at work makes it only that much easier.

Stephanie chose her favorite book from Rapunzel’s new selection of coffee table books. The varied book subjects and quality photography make for the perfect gift for someone who appreciates anything from rock-n-roll history to Palm Beach decorating styles.

“I think my mom back in Maryland would enjoy a book like Shell Chic. Lots of people are fascinated by the fact that we can go to the beach year-round. She would probably love if I gave her this book and a couple of shells from one of my recent trips to the beach.”

Stephanie also chose the Minnie Rose Pow-Wow top in cashmere. While Stephanie chose the Sand color as her favorite, Minnie Rose offers many other colors and even make the Pow-Wow top in cotton.

“This is a great layering piece. The sizing on these are great too, they come XS/S and M/L, making it easier if I can’t remember their exact measurements. It’s super comfy and with a great pair of white pants it can easily be taken into the summer months.”

Minnie Rose Cashmere Pow Wow Sweater: $275.00
Shell Chic by Marlene Hurley Marshall: $35.00

The Calm Before the Coterie Storm

17 Sep

blog
As the Buyer for Rapunzel’s Closet and Lil Rapunzel’s you don’t often get to see as much of me “personally” in and around the stores.  However you do see a whole lot of my style and my “voice” on our selling floor. As I prepare for Spring Coterie our biggest and busiest show of our selling year, I decided to give you a sneak peek into how I get ready for the shows.

Today is what I like to call the “Calm Before the Coterie Storm.” It’s the day that I spend cleaning out files and cleaning off my desk in preparation for all of the line sheets, look books and order forms that will be covering every surface of office space in the next two days. Prior to this day I’ve been pouring over selling reports, researching fashion week trends and talking to our selling staff about what did and did not work last Spring.

About 4 weeks ago I started making our appointments. I’m a creature of habit and I tend to like to see the same vendors at the same times of the day. After 5 years of going to these shows I’ve learned the best and the worst times to see each vendor. I love to start Day 1 with Splendid and Ella Moss. These booths get crazy as the day progresses so getting them checked off the list first thing is key. Next, I try to tackle the denim vendors. I always like to hit up the Citizens of Humanity booth during lunch time. They have the BEST boxed lunch and the cookies are yummy! The rest of the day is spent visiting Joie, Vince, Minnie Rose and Michael Stars and tons more vendors we currently carry. Day 2 is the day that is spent walking around and checking out new talent for the store. I don’t schedule too many appointments this day because I really want to devote time to learning about new vendors.

blog(I’m in the middle taking notes of course!)

While I’d like to tell you that I spend hours planning what fashionable ensemble I’m going to wear to the show, sadly it’s really more of a game time decision. I follow the 3 C’s of show dressing – comfort, cold and chic. Comfort because it’s a long day walking around from booth to booth. (I leave my 6″ heels at home) Cold because ineveitably one side of the show floor is always freezing so I need a layering piece. Chic because I still have to look chic!  Afterall – this is the fashion business! I always try to wear clothing that represents Rapunzel’s Closet which isn’t hard seeing as my personal closet could be called Rapunzel’s Closet.

My favorite part of the day is when we get to sit down and recap the show. I like to hear what my colleagues think about what we picked for the store and what the peak and the pit of the day was for them. This part of the day usually revolves around some fabulous dinner out in NYC with Rapunzel (Randi) and the girls who are visiting from the store.

It’s true that I have a very fun job, but it’s also a lot of hard work. To be a successful buyer you have to be organized, take good notes, listen to the customers and the selling staff and most important – when the storm hits don’t take yourself too seriously!

Intermezzo: Ode to Minnie Rose

15 Aug

blogIf you haven’t tried on one of Minnie Rose’s luxurious cashmere sweaters you are really missing out. That’s how our love affair of all things Minnie Rose began a long time ago! The Resort Collection is always our favorite to see! The color palatte is sprinkled with happy pinks, greens and blues. Our old faithful favorites like sand and white always come back for Resort too. There were a few new additions to the line that we absolutely died for. blog Why not take our favorite Cashmere Pow Wow 3/4 length sleeve sweater and add buttons to it and make it a cardigan. Genius! We want one in every color! (no joke) blog Can you see that gorgeous Gold Metallic Vest on the MR rep? Yep – the one that is fabulously styled over the white tank and the jeans. We’re going to copy that exact look for our own closets. It’s a Resort MUST for 2012!

Some of our other favorites were the really fun Zig Zag Tank Dresses and Ruana Ponchos – we bought just about every color. For those of you who are Minnie Rose die hards, the Long Sleeve Striped Crew Neck Dresses are back and there are Solid Tank Dresses available in all the gorg Resort colors… sigh! blog Our ode to all things Minnie Rose just wouldn’t be complete without a shout out to our favorite Minnie Rose Rep Denise. Here she is pictured with Rapunzel herself. We love gabbing with her, we love when she calls us weekly and we love playing Scrabble and Scramble with her! Denise you rock!

Just Because the Fireworks Are Over…

5 Jul

Just because the fireworks are over doesn’t mean you need to put away your red, white and blue Summer fashion! There are still plenty of clambakes, bonfires and boat trips to attend.  Here are our selections for keeping yourself and your little ones on trend for the rest of Summer’s fun activities.

blog

This Jannuzzi Crab Tee is just too cute to pass on – whether you are attending the aforementioned clambake or not – why wouldn’t you put your kiddo in this tee any day of the week? Add the matching hat and a pair of CPC Designs gingham shorts and your little guy will be ready for the beach!

blog

Let’s face it – not many people will be looking at you when you have your little one in tow – but you can still look your best in our selection of beach-dinner party fashion. Whether it’s a tee and shorts kind of casual affair or a more formal event – we’ve got you covered with our favorites from 7 For All Mankind, Splendid, Minnie Rose, Ella Moss, KAIN Label and J Brand. Throw in a Red Coral Branch Necklace from Sasha Lickle and your outfit will be complete!

blogKnown for their classic stripes Splendid Littles is a great way to keep your little guy looking Cape Cod ready this Summer. Whether you can get to the Cape – or are recreating a classic Cape Cod Fete in your backyard – this is the brand for your mini-me!

Finally – what would a blog post about clambakes, bonfires and boat parties be without us paying tribute to the ultimate classic little boy fashion – the Seersucker “John-John” Romper. Made famous by none other than former Palm Beach regular JFK Jr., CPC Designs knocks this trend out of the park with their navy and red seersucker options. A customer favorite at Lil Rapunzel’s, your lil guy will definitely steal the show in this outfit – no fireworks needed!
