Mama Knows Best ~ Sarah

Mama Knows Best: Sarah’s Mom

Every girl should know that there is no trend is an original. Nothing is new and sometimes the best way to be fashionably inspired is to look at old pictures of our moms, aunts, grandmothers, and even our dads! (In case you didn’t know, our dads were definitely the original hipsters.)

Here at Rapunzel’s Closet we respect all things fashion, so we decided what better way to pay homage to the fashionistas before us, then to create some looks inspired by our mothers—our first ever style icons.

Sarah is currently the face of Rapunzel’s Closet. When we asked her to bring in a picture of her mother, PJ, we weren’t too shocked that she presented us with one of her mom’s original test shots from her early modeling days! Good looks definitely run in that family!
blog With this gorgeous shot of PJ as our inspiration, we put together a couple things that Sarah’s mom would definitely be sporting during her modeling days! blog PJ is wearing a men’s style button-down; we thought the Equipment Signature Blouse would work perfectly to help us re-create this mom-inspired look.  And since the skinny jean had yet to make a splash, we thought the Joe’s Visionaire Boot Cut Jean would give the retro look the finish it needs. Throw on some TKEES or even better, some high platforms and you’ve got the look!

Way to go, Sarah’s mom! Thanks for inspiring us!

Equipment Signature Blouse in Shark: $208.00
Joe’s Visionaire Boot cut Jean: $178.00

Steal This Look ~ Alexa Chung

Steal This Look: Star Style
blog

Alexa Chung has inspired this week’s Steal This Look entry. This stylish Brit has tried her hand at modeling, hosting, and even editing for Vogue. Her tomboy taste has earned her a reputation as one of the most coveted and imitated styles to come out of England since Kate Moss.

It wasn’t hard for us to choose a Chung-like look to duplicate. It ended up being one of Alexa’s signature street-style looks that we decided to re-work using Rapunzel’s gear.

blog
The star print top Alexa is sporting looks really similar to the Equipment Signature Blouse we currently carry. This silky top can be worn  dressy or casual.  We love how Alexa paired it with an edgy, cut-off short. We took the casual route and paired the top with the Hudson Amber Raw-Edge Short in the Indie wash. The lighter wash is perfect for summer and it off-sets the darkness of the top. Lastly, we used a Bourbon and Boweties Necklace in the black Agate stone to add a little something extra.

Beat the heat with a pair of nude TKEES or play up the edge with your favorite pair of Converse. You’ll be worth enough to saunter the London streets with Ms. Chung, herself.

Equipment Signature Star Top: $248.00
Hudson Amber Raw Edge Short: $169.00
Bourbon and Bowetie Tassel Necklace: $70.00

Closet Gossip: Randi’s Style Obsessions

18 Mar

Contrary to popular belief, not all princesses love pink dresses and diamond tiaras. Randi, aka Rapunzel, is more likely to rock edgy looks comprised of ripped jeans; band t-shirts and Chuck Taylors than her fairy-tale namesake.
blog
Camouflage is no longer for the rugged duck hunter. The Equipment Sloane Crew Sweater in Desert Storm has just enough of a feminine touch be appealing for even a girly-girl. With the Hudson Krista Crop in the Blondie wash on bottom, this look only needs a simple, dark-toned Love Quotes Scarf. We chose the Espresso color to amp up the “camo” trend.
blog
For the sake of style, we did a quick-change on top. We replaced the Equipment sweater with the Cotton by Autumn Cashmere Crochet Skull Sweater in Tangelo. The simple front of the sweater is made up by the intricacy of the skull design on the back. If you’ve spent any time in New York recently, you’ll know that this skull design is EVERYWHERE and Randi wanted to make sure that this style was available for her customers. If orange is too far out of your comfort zone, this sweater also comes in Black and Dark Navy.

So if you’re like Randi and would rather be rocking out to Bon Jovi than partaking in preppy princess duties, come pick up some of Randi’s style obsessions. You’ll be the belle of the ball rock show.

Equipment Sloane Crew Sweater in Desert Storm: $298.00
Love Quotes Scarf in Espresso: $88.00
Hudson Krista Crop in Blonde Wash: $216.00
Autumn Cashmere Crochet Skull Sweater in Tangelo: $253.00
Missoni Fringe Scarf in Orange and Purple: $196

Closet Gossip: Gift Guide Part 6 ~ Hallie

7 Dec

Here at Rapunzel’s Closet, the girls have started to find themselves wondering who will be on their lists this year and what the perfect gift for that special someone may be. For “Rapunzel’s Gift Giving Guide,” we had a few of our most thoughtful selling associates narrow down and pick two of their favorite items that they hope to be giving holiday season. Yesterday we featured Ashley’s picks. Today is all about Hallie. Hallie has logged the most years out of all of us at Rapunzel’s Closet and loves being able to work on the sales floor when she visits from our corporate office in NYC!
blog

Our store buyer, Hallie functions as Rapunzel’s eyes and ears in the New York fashion scene. She is the one who sifts through countless vendors and merchandise to make sure our store is always stocked with the hottest trends. Hallie continued used her expertise in product selection when she chose our new Equipment button-downs and Chewbeads necklaces as her top picks for our Holiday Gift Guide.

The brand Equipment’s French origin is apparent in the slick lines and rich fabrics they use in their clothing. Rapunzel’s just received some great new pieces for the holiday season and the French sophistication is consistent throughout the different styles. With that, Hallie chose the Slim-Fit Signature button-down blouse in the star print as her favorite.

“My newest obsession is shirting – I feel like no matter what – a blouse always looks good. My Equipment blouses have become my go to pieces for everything and it’s an easy wearable gift for basically any body type.”

Keeping in mind the new moms we may be shopping for this year, Hallie also chose the Chewbeads Hudson necklace as her second choice in our Gift Guide. Like their name suggests, these necklaces are made from 100% silicone are safe for babies and toddlers to chew on. Not only are these necklaces easy to keep clean, but they also make a fun fashion statement, at the same time.

“What I love about Chewbeads is that they are not only functional but fashionable too! It’s the perfect holiday gift for any new mom. They are soothing for the teething baby who chews on everything – but mom can still wear these big, chunky, bright necklaces after the teething is done.”

Equipment Signature button-down: $248.00
Chewbeads Hudson necklace: $40.00
