When I asked the girls to pick their favorite style icon, my mind immediately began toiling over who I would choose. I like Kristen Stewart’s chaotic style, but also can appreciate Dianna Agron’s consistency of flirty, flowy dresses. However, when I finally realized that it was Michelle Williams who made the most appearances on my Pinterest Inspiration board, I knew I had my answer.
It wasn’t until the recent years that Michelle Williams began molding her signature style. A lot has changed since her arrival to the Hollywood scene in the late nineties. Gone are the denim overalls and plaid shirts, and the shadow of Katie Holmes on Dawson’s Creek, Michelle Williams is a bona fide style icon.
I chose the Ella Moss Lucie Clip Dot Dress as the staple piece in my Michelle Williams creation. The halter style is perfectly retro and the fact that it can be dressed up or down is a plus. As the Buyer for Rapunzel’s Closet and Lil Rapunzel’s you don’t often get to see as much of me “personally” in and around the stores. However you do see a whole lot of my style and my “voice” on our selling floor. As I prepare for Spring Coterie our biggest and busiest show of our selling year, I decided to give you a sneak peek into how I get ready for the shows.
Today is what I like to call the “Calm Before the Coterie Storm.” It’s the day that I spend cleaning out files and cleaning off my desk in preparation for all of the line sheets, look books and order forms that will be covering every surface of office space in the next two days. Prior to this day I’ve been pouring over selling reports, researching fashion week trends and talking to our selling staff about what did and did not work last Spring.
About 4 weeks ago I started making our appointments. I’m a creature of habit and I tend to like to see the same vendors at the same times of the day. After 5 years of going to these shows I’ve learned the best and the worst times to see each vendor. I love to start Day 1 with Splendid and Ella Moss. These booths get crazy as the day progresses so getting them checked off the list first thing is key. Next, I try to tackle the denim vendors. I always like to hit up the Citizens of Humanity booth during lunch time. They have the BEST boxed lunch and the cookies are yummy! The rest of the day is spent visiting Joie, Vince, Minnie Rose and Michael Stars and tons more vendors we currently carry. Day 2 is the day that is spent walking around and checking out new talent for the store. I don’t schedule too many appointments this day because I really want to devote time to learning about new vendors.
(I’m in the middle taking notes of course!)
While I’d like to tell you that I spend hours planning what fashionable ensemble I’m going to wear to the show, sadly it’s really more of a game time decision. I follow the 3 C’s of show dressing – comfort, cold and chic. Comfort because it’s a long day walking around from booth to booth. (I leave my 6″ heels at home) Cold because ineveitably one side of the show floor is always freezing so I need a layering piece. Chic because I still have to look chic! Afterall – this is the fashion business! I always try to wear clothing that represents Rapunzel’s Closet which isn’t hard seeing as my personal closet could be called Rapunzel’s Closet.
My favorite part of the day is when we get to sit down and recap the show. I like to hear what my colleagues think about what we picked for the store and what the peak and the pit of the day was for them. This part of the day usually revolves around some fabulous dinner out in NYC with Rapunzel (Randi) and the girls who are visiting from the store.
It’s true that I have a very fun job, but it’s also a lot of hard work. To be a successful buyer you have to be organized, take good notes, listen to the customers and the selling staff and most important – when the storm hits don’t take yourself too seriously!
How cute is this floral display at the Ella Moss booth? We are for sure going to do our own version of this as soon as busy season starts! A wardrobe staple for all Rapunzel Girls – the Ella Moss Resort Collection didn’t disappoint. I am a blazer freak as I’m sure you’ve gathered from reading past posts. I love them and want them all. So you can imagine how excited I was to try on this Ella Moss Blazer with zig zag lining – adorbs! 
We also hit up the Enza Costa booth. This is a fairly new line for us – but we’ve had a lot of success with it in the past year. You want to wear these tops and tanks – they are as soft as they are chic. The luxurious fabrics will make you keep coming back to their layering tanks, oversized tees and cashmere sweaters. 
Always a fan of a cute skirt in a cool print Randi is modeling the snakeskin mini skirt. She’ll wear this over tights with boots and a black long sleeve top while it’s cool out this winter and come summer it will look great paired with a white tank and a cute pair of sandals!

I recently had the pleasure of marrying my college sweetheart 12 years after we first met. We celebrated our wedding in Palm Beach, FL with all of our wonderful friends and family. Being the Buyer for a great store like Rapunzel’s Closet and ShopRapunzels.com comes in handy on a daily basis – but it was being a shopper before my wedding weekend that was really a lot of fun! ShopRapunzels.com had everything I needed for my big weekend – except the dress of course!!
The Ella Moss Camille Dress was perfect for running errands the day before the wedding. It was hot in Florida so the lightweight sleeveless style of the dress was perfect for my last minute hair appointments and shopping trips. This dress looks cute with ballet flats, flip flops and wedge sandals. I loved wearing this dress so much that i’m taking it on my Greek honeymoon next month.
One of the first wedding purchases I made was undies! Hanky Panky’s are by far the most comfortable thong underwear and the crystal “I Do” detail was a fun surprise for my husband! These come in white and blue so if you are missing your “something blue,” undies are a great way to follow the tradition. I knew that my feet would only last so long in my beautiful Jimmy Choo 4 1/2″ heels so I bought Havaianas Top Flip Flops to dance the night away. The great thing about Havaianas is that they come in tons of colors. I bought the India Orange ones to match my wedding colors which were hot pink and orange. The flash of orange looked so cute under my dress, and I got lots of compliments for my dedication to the theme of my wedding.
After a lot of indecisiveness over my hair, I finally decided to wear it up in a low loose bun. My best friend Jodi from camp had loaned me her veil which was beautiful and covered my “something borrowed” requirement. I wore this Juicy Couture Terry Hoodie on my wedding day to my hair appointment. It kept me warm in all of the cold air conditioning and it was easy to unzip and take off before I put my wedding gown on. I didn’t want to mess up the hours of handiwork that my stylist had spent working on my hair. The hoodie also served one other purpose that I had never thought about before the wedding – it protected my back and arms from the layers of hairspray that my stylist doused my head with.
In warm weather I never go anywhere without at least one pair of Juicy Couture Terry Public Shorts. They are comfortable and easy to pack and go with all of my cute tanks and of course with my Juicy Couture Terry Hoodies. These shorts were the perfect addition to my wedding day attire.
