Steal This Look ~ Marilyn Monroe

Steal This Look: Sweet Norma Jean
“I’m very definitely a woman and I enjoy it.” –Marilyn Monroe

blog One of the most iconic women of all time, Marilyn Monroe, will be the inspiration for this week’s Steal This Look blog. Although Ms. Monroe passed away over fifty years ago, her timeless style and beauty has kept her at the forefront of modern popular culture.

With countless images to choose from, we chose one of the last images of Marilyn ever taken. During a photo shoot by photographer, George Barris, Marilyn surprised us by covering up a bit by wearing an oversized sweater as she frolicked along Santa Monica Beach. blog
In order to recreate this iconic look, we chose the Goddis Liv Wrap Sweater in the soft neutral tones.. Whether you throw this sweater over a bathing suit after a day at the beach, or choose to pair it with a tank and linen pants, it’s soft tones and comfy shape make this Goddis item an ideal addition to any Rapunzel shopper’s collection.

Not enough pop culture for you? We’ve also started selling coffee table books which are perfect additions to any living space! Since Marilyn is our featured inspiration, we are including two of our Marilyn-based books that are currently on sale!

Goddis Liv Wrap Sweater: $229.00
An Evening with Marilyn: $60.00
Marilyn by Bert Stern and Norman Miller: $69.99

Closet Gossip: New Feature!

29 Nov

We’re so lucky to have the very talented Rachel Almeida as part of our selling team this year! She’s also a seasoned blogger and will be regularly contributing to our ShopRapunzels.com blog! blog

Closet Gossip is going to be a regular feature “A behind-the-scenes peek into Palm Beach’s most enchanted boutique!”

With Thanksgiving and Black Friday gone and past, many of us find ourselves starting to panic at the thought of holiday shopping. It is the only time of year when your sister, mother, babysitter, neighbor, and everyone else in between find their names on the same list—your holiday shopping list.

Keeping in mind how preferences differ from one gift-receiver to another, last-minute holiday shopping will only allow for reckless spending and even worse, unsatisfied family and friends.  Rapunzel’s Closet offers a variety of affordable, funky, and personalized gifts that will leave everyone on your list wishing they had thought of it first.

Here at Rapunzel’s Closet, the girls have started to find themselves wondering who will be on their lists this year and what the perfect gift for that special someone may be. For “Rapunzel’s Gift Giving Guide,” we had a few of our most thoughtful sales staff pick two of their favorite items that they hope to be giving holiday season. We’re rolling out our gift guide over the next few posts – so keep checking back to see what is our our wish lists!

First Up: Stephanie

blog
Our store manager, Stephanie, keeps a pretty busy schedule. So the fact that she’s able to do some of her holiday shopping at work makes it only that much easier.

Stephanie chose her favorite book from Rapunzel’s new selection of coffee table books. The varied book subjects and quality photography make for the perfect gift for someone who appreciates anything from rock-n-roll history to Palm Beach decorating styles.

“I think my mom back in Maryland would enjoy a book like Shell Chic. Lots of people are fascinated by the fact that we can go to the beach year-round. She would probably love if I gave her this book and a couple of shells from one of my recent trips to the beach.”

Stephanie also chose the Minnie Rose Pow-Wow top in cashmere. While Stephanie chose the Sand color as her favorite, Minnie Rose offers many other colors and even make the Pow-Wow top in cotton.

“This is a great layering piece. The sizing on these are great too, they come XS/S and M/L, making it easier if I can’t remember their exact measurements. It’s super comfy and with a great pair of white pants it can easily be taken into the summer months.”

Minnie Rose Cashmere Pow Wow Sweater: $275.00
Shell Chic by Marlene Hurley Marshall: $35.00

Nifty Gifty

blog Every year we head to the gift show and eagerly anticipate our favorite booth – the EGG booth. What do they do with all of these egg crates? Who sells them? What are they used for? These are the same questions we ask ourselves each year. But we digress – we don’t come to the gift show to shop for egg crates we come for more important things like ballerina tutus, socks and stuffed animals!

Our first stop at the show was the Chewbeads booth.
blog
If you are a mom and you have a teether you will love Chewbeads. The colorful beaded necklaces and bangles are both stimulating and soothing for your teething tots. Completely BPA free and child safe, this is the perfect gift for any new mom. The on trend color palatte and the fashion forward designs make these necklaces and bracelets a “must have” for all the IT Girls too! (No teething baby necessary!)blog

After Chewbeads we headed over to the Trumpette Socks booth. blog
No trip to the gift show would be complete without placing an order for socks that are designed to look like shoes! Our personal favorites are the ballet shoes for the ballerinas and the checkerboard skaters for the cool lil dudes.

We capped off our day with a visit to the JellyCat booth. blog
Although it appears that Esther is standing in the zoo, she is actually checking out the new additions to the JellyCat family.

We didn’t just spend time in the Kid’s section of the show – we visited our personal fav Jonathan Adler who has a line of candles and soaps called “Palm Beach” (fab!)

We also started our collection of fancy coffee table books which you will see featured and for sale at Rapunzel’s Closet this holiday season. We’re obsessed with gorgeous books and we know some of you are too!

We hit the fancy food aisle for our mid-day snack – the big winner here was the caramel and pretzel corn. (We went back twice to this booth!)

What we wore:

Randi: David Lerner Leggings, Joie Sweater
Hallie: Joie Shorts, Vince Tank, Joie Boyfriend Sweater
Esther: 7 For All Mankind Jeans, Joie Sweater

Clearly a big day for Joie!
