Nifty Gifty

11 Sep

blog Every year we head to the gift show and eagerly anticipate our favorite booth – the EGG booth. What do they do with all of these egg crates? Who sells them? What are they used for? These are the same questions we ask ourselves each year. But we digress – we don’t come to the gift show to shop for egg crates we come for more important things like ballerina tutus, socks and stuffed animals!

Our first stop at the show was the Chewbeads booth.
blog
If you are a mom and you have a teether you will love Chewbeads. The colorful beaded necklaces and bangles are both stimulating and soothing for your teething tots. Completely BPA free and child safe, this is the perfect gift for any new mom. The on trend color palatte and the fashion forward designs make these necklaces and bracelets a “must have” for all the IT Girls too! (No teething baby necessary!)blog

After Chewbeads we headed over to the Trumpette Socks booth. blog
No trip to the gift show would be complete without placing an order for socks that are designed to look like shoes! Our personal favorites are the ballet shoes for the ballerinas and the checkerboard skaters for the cool lil dudes.

We capped off our day with a visit to the JellyCat booth. blog
Although it appears that Esther is standing in the zoo, she is actually checking out the new additions to the JellyCat family.

We didn’t just spend time in the Kid’s section of the show – we visited our personal fav Jonathan Adler who has a line of candles and soaps called “Palm Beach” (fab!)

We also started our collection of fancy coffee table books which you will see featured and for sale at Rapunzel’s Closet this holiday season. We’re obsessed with gorgeous books and we know some of you are too!

We hit the fancy food aisle for our mid-day snack – the big winner here was the caramel and pretzel corn. (We went back twice to this booth!)

What we wore:

Randi: David Lerner Leggings, Joie Sweater
Hallie: Joie Shorts, Vince Tank, Joie Boyfriend Sweater
Esther: 7 For All Mankind Jeans, Joie Sweater

Clearly a big day for Joie!

Just Because the Fireworks Are Over…

5 Jul

Just because the fireworks are over doesn’t mean you need to put away your red, white and blue Summer fashion! There are still plenty of clambakes, bonfires and boat trips to attend.  Here are our selections for keeping yourself and your little ones on trend for the rest of Summer’s fun activities.

blog

This Jannuzzi Crab Tee is just too cute to pass on – whether you are attending the aforementioned clambake or not – why wouldn’t you put your kiddo in this tee any day of the week? Add the matching hat and a pair of CPC Designs gingham shorts and your little guy will be ready for the beach!

blog

Let’s face it – not many people will be looking at you when you have your little one in tow – but you can still look your best in our selection of beach-dinner party fashion. Whether it’s a tee and shorts kind of casual affair or a more formal event – we’ve got you covered with our favorites from 7 For All Mankind, Splendid, Minnie Rose, Ella Moss, KAIN Label and J Brand. Throw in a Red Coral Branch Necklace from Sasha Lickle and your outfit will be complete!

blogKnown for their classic stripes Splendid Littles is a great way to keep your little guy looking Cape Cod ready this Summer. Whether you can get to the Cape – or are recreating a classic Cape Cod Fete in your backyard – this is the brand for your mini-me!

Finally – what would a blog post about clambakes, bonfires and boat parties be without us paying tribute to the ultimate classic little boy fashion – the Seersucker “John-John” Romper. Made famous by none other than former Palm Beach regular JFK Jr., CPC Designs knocks this trend out of the park with their navy and red seersucker options. A customer favorite at Lil Rapunzel’s, your lil guy will definitely steal the show in this outfit – no fireworks needed!

What’s a Curvier Girl To Do?

The Right Jean Fit for that Curvier Body!

Working in an office full of beautiful girls, none of whom are above a size 28 jean, it can sometimes be hard (or intimidating!) to get advice on the right fit for my size 30/31 figure. But after 3 ½ years of trying on the great selection of jeans, from 1921 Jeans to William Rast, that we carry at Rapunzel’s, I must say that I’ve finally settled on the brands and styles that most complement my body and that fit my varying style moods. For starters, my day-in, day-out absolute fav is Paige Jeans. The Hollywood Hills Bootcut style in a medium paige2or dark wash works perfectly with pretty much anything. For a casual day look, I pair mine with a simple LNA tee, a little cardigan like the Juicy Couture Striped Cardi and some easy flats like the Dolce Vita Devas. What I love about this cut is that the Hollywood Hills come up a little higher than the Laurel Canyon style which is great for avoiding the dreaded “muffin top” affect. Something to remember however, Paige Jeans run a bit small (particularly in the darker washes) and many of us have to go up a size. The fit is so great it’s well worth the bump to the morale though! Plus, Paige Gellar, who started Paige Jeans four years ago, was a long time fit model for almost all the major jean labels out there today, so she really knows a thing or two about how a jean should fit. Her struggle and subsequent recovery from an eating disorder has made her a role model for embracing your inner beauty and her line reflects her desire to create jeans for every”body.”img_50902

I think it’s a myth that curvier girls can’t wear skinny jeans. It’s really about finding a good fit, balancing out the proportions with the right top and having the confidence to pull it all off! My staple skinny jeans are the 7 for All Mankind Roxanne jeans in the New York Dark Wash. These jeans are super stretchy and their 13″ leg opening is skinny enough to stuff into boots but still wide enough to look good with a pair of ballerina slippers. (Or try the similar Edie style which has an extra 1″ at the leg opening!) The only downside to these jeans is their lower rise which sometimes shows off a little too much of my Hanky Pankies (!) but that’s easily remedied by wearing longer tops. And the right type of top is something like the Joie Alicia tank, which has a looser fit and looks great either loosely tucked in or left out and flowy with. A fun Love Quotes Scarf adds a punch of color and this outfit (paired with some heels) easily moves from day to night!

My latest pick is the very fashion forward (thank you Katie Holmes!) Current/Elliot boyfriend jeans. It’s about time that the loose, holey, completely worn out jeans that I want to throw on everyday can now be dressed up and worn right into the office (okay, okay, only if you have a job in an equally fashion forward office!) And how great img_50704is it that my usual size 30 self can go down to a 29 and know that I could even fit the 28 if I really wanted to? Love it! I find myself wearing these most with gladiator sandals like the Sam Edelman Ginnies, and some girlie top like his 7 for All Mankind Epaulette blouse. The real trick to pulling off these jeans is to remember that they are essentially supposed to be your boyfriend’s jeans and you need to counterbalance their boyish fit with your more feminine accessories (a little lace top, a great pair of heels, etc.) They do run big and they are supposed to be baggy, so be sure pair them with tops that are a little more fitted and shoes that aren’t too heavy looking!

At the end of the day, there’s nothing more unflattering than jeans that don’t fit properly. Keep in mind that chances are good that you are different jean sizes in different styles/brands, so don’t get caught up sticking to one size. With all the great options out there, there really is no excuse for not finding something fabulous that will work with your unique body type and particular fashion sensibility!
